Additional Pupil Support

We deal with pupils who have Social, Emotional and Behaviour difficulties. Some of them find the social areas of the school difficult to handle and APS department provides a quieter, smaller environment for them which they find easier to manage.

Before the school day begins / breakfast
APS staff provide breakfast for pupils who require it. They start the day in a quiet, welcoming environment. It enables SEBN pupils to check they know what their timetabled classes are for the day.

Interval / Lunchtime arrangements
Additional Pupil Support provide interval cover for the more vulnerable pupils who may have social or emotional difficulties.

All pupils who use this service have past or present involvement with APS.

They can use computers, play games, read magazines, chat or have a quiet time.

The arrangements are similar to those described above for interval cover.

Homework
Pupils are encouraged to use homework diaries and to complete homework. They are provided with support when required and staff keep in touch with parents on a regular basis.

Enhanced Transition Group
When the new S1 pupils arrive in August, APS staff offer a lunchtime club for any pupils who may feel a bit lost in the new bigger environment. This group in the past met up in the New Bruce. The group decide what activities they would like to participate in and this could be games, Wii or cooking.

Individual pupils out of school
APS staff take individual pupils out of school either for a walk or to have lunch off campus.
